Chapter 1 – Drum Set
In chapter 1, Toshi will introduce you what a drum set is included
(Snare Drum, Bass Frum, Tom-Tom, Floor Tom, Crash, Ride), features
of drum sounds and types of drumsticks (Barrel, Round, Teardrop,
Mallet, Brush.
Chapter 2 – Sticking Exercise
You will learn 2 ways of grasping drumsticks (Matched Grip and Traditional
Grip). Toshi will show you 4 different ways of kit drumming (Full,
Down, Up, Tap), 3 important notices while playing the drum set,
practices of balance, downbeat, upbeat, and double stroke.
Chapter 3 – Rudiments
Introduction to Rudiments including Paradiddle, Double Paradiddle,
Paraddile-Diddle, Flam, Ruff and basic Stroke Roll techniques (5
Stroke Roll, 7 Stroke Roll, 9 Stroke Roll). In this chapter, Toshi
will demonstrate how you can do solo improvisation with these techniques.
Chapter 4 – Basic Reading Exercise
Toshi will play a basic syncopation in 3 different ways and 2 ways
of putting your foot on the draw pedals (Heel-Up and Heel-Down).
Through these practices, you will develop your sense of rhythm and
play with individual limb to maintain balance.
Chapter 5 – Basic Rock Grooves
Toshi will show you 10 classic rock drum beats along with bass line
ensemble.
Chapter 6 – Demo Song
Toshi will demonstrate why jazz drumming is important with a pop-rock
song written by Toshi, “Peace in The World”, and introduce you several
Fill-In techniques.
